CRUISES

During the summer months, one-day cruises are made daily from the port of the island to Mount Athos, allowing the traveler to be enchanted by the religious devotion of the place and the emblematic monasteries, sailing on its southwestern coast.
From the main port of Ammouliani, daily cruises are also operated, which make the tour of the island, while the traveller can visit the Drenia islets, with the turquoise waters, which seems to be the ideal exotic destination.
CULTURAL
FOLKLORE MUSEUM
The Folklore Museum is located just above the small port of the island, in the central square of the village, where the church of Agios Nikolaos is located.
It was a monk’s dependency of the Vatopedi monastery, built in 1907. With the arrival of refugees on the island, the building was converted into a primary school, with the galleys and the dining room for the common meal were located on the ground floor and the classrooms upstairs. It operated until the mid-1960s.
Next to the museum there is an abandoned stone building, which was originally a temporary residence for refugees and from the 1940s it was used as a club and a venue for cinema, theatre performances, official celebrations, etc.
On the ground floor of the stone building is the folklore collection of the Cultural Association of Ammouliani, while the upper floor houses the offices of the community.
Through the exhibits of the museum, a representation of a small Asian minor household with its endowments, the living room and daily use objects are presented. There are also old photographs from the first years of living on the island, a loom, carpentry tools, a distiller for tsipouro, church-related objects and sacred relics brought by the refugees, clothing and other items.
THE CHURCH OF AGIOS NIKOLAOS
The church of Agios Nikolaos is located in the stone square of the island and dates back to 1865. It is still the central church of Ammouliani and most of the sacraments and daily divine liturgies are celebrated there.
